From 1922, he was a student at the Academy of Fine Arts, and from 1926, he was an advanced art student. In 1924, he went on a study trip to Vienna, and in 1928, he traveled to London, supporting himself by drawing portraits. He lived in Paris until 1932, participated in the 1929 Salon d'Automne, and in 1931, exhibited at the Art Hongrois Moderne alongside artists such as Tihanyi, Czóbel, and István Farkas. In Paris, he befriended Géza Blattner, who influenced him to take up puppet art. He became a member of Blattner's popular avant-garde puppet theater, Arc-en-Ciel, and held a position in the international puppeteer organization (UNIMA). He returned home in 1932 and conducted highly influential art educational activities as a high school teacher, opening a free school. His stay in Pápa was only interrupted by a study trip to Transylvania in 1932 and to the United States in 1965. In 1994, a permanent exhibition of his works opened in Pápa.
