Aknay Janos
Painter and graphic artist, he graduated from a high school of fine and applied arts under the guidance of Ferenc Sebestyén. He did not obtain a higher degree in arts. In 1971, he settled in Szentendre alongside several autodidact and alternative artists. He was awarded the Young Artists' Studio Scholarship in 1976 and the Anna Neufeld Memorial Prize in 1989. In 1996, he received the Pro Urbe Medal of Szentendre and the Art of Pest County Award. He was also awarded at the Szeged Biennial of Portrait Painting in 1998. He was a founding member of the Vajda Lajos Studio in Szentendre in 1972 and a member of the Szentendre Graphics Workshop from 1980. From 1985 to 1993, he was a teacher at the Szőnyi Free School in Zebegény. In 1994, he joined the Patak Group and the Mythen Creative Group. He has been exhibiting his artworks since 1971 and has participated in almost every group exhibition in Szentendre. His works have been showcased in group exhibitions at the Hungarian National Gallery in 1978 and 1983, at the Palace of Art and in Paris in 1984, in Zurich in 1987, at the Ernst Museum in 1988, and again at the Palace of Art in 1997. His creations can be found in contemporary collections in Dunaszerdahely and Salzburg, as well as in the Ferenczy Museum in Szentendre.
